Teaching & Educational Consultancy

Teaching in Higher Education

Previous teaching at the University of Manchester, Kingston University London and City University London included modules in music theory, critical listening, composition (instrumental and studio), film music, collaborative practice and acoustic communication.

At RCS I teach in areas of music history (primarily 20th and 21st Century), music and culture, practical musicianship, film music, sonic arts, music education (esp. instrumental/vocal teaching) and practice-led research projects.

I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD students interested in areas of electroacoustic composition, sound art, interdisciplinary and/or site-specific practice, music technology pedagogy and the aesthetics and performance practice of electronic music.

Schools and Outreach (UK and International)

Experience London_Guangzhou

With Regional Education Agents at the ‘Experience London’ Roadshow Event, Guangzhou, China, 2015.

My initial teaching experience was gained working as a peripatetic music instructor in schools across the West of Scotland. I also trained as a workshop leader with Sonic Arts Network (now Sound and Music) and led workshops as part of the ‘Sonic Postcards‘ project between 2005 and 2008. From 2008 to 2009 I worked at Sheffield Music Academy, a specialist music centre for talented young musicians. I established strong links with UK-wide schools and colleges through my work as an Admissions Tutor at Kingston University and City University London.
